On September 13, 2008, the Youth of Pocahontas Team earned over one thousand dollars for the local Relay for Life Breast Cancer Event. Team Captain, Khris Smith, said the team walked 14 miles in the event. Using the state of Massachusetts as their backdrop, the group displayed maps of Boston harbor, lighthouses, symbols of the Red Socks, and they sold tea in honor of the BostonTea Party. With a printer donated by Jim Smith, the group held an auction. They had a Dance for the Cure with the support of Phillip Anderson's Dance Dance Revolution unit. Khris had high praise for his team of Mandy Lester, a junior, and Rachel Cain, Nathan Hamons, Merandia Shinaberry, and Roger Ray, sophomores. Khris said the team plans to work for the cause again next year, and they invite others to join in this worthy cause.
